Historian/Writer/Lecturer

As a published writer, professor, and someone who has written countless essays and evaluated countless more, I am uniquely positioned to assist students with their writing. My experience with tutoring or teaching students of various grades/levels/ages goes includes much of the past decade, whether as a professor, a writing tutor for various tutoring services, an academic writing tutor for a community college, an essay evaluator for the history department of a prominent university, or as a tutor in a private, self-employed capacity. I have helped students with their essay writing in numerous subjects and disciplines, including history, political science, pre-law/legal studies, various social science subjects (sociology, criminal justice, psychology, etc), English (composition and/or English lit., etc. If a student needs help with writing essays, regardless of subject or topic, I can help them significantly, not only in reaching their goals of finishing assignments, but in honing their research and writing skills overall. My background, including experience as a professor and academic writing tutor, includes a master's degree in history from Portland State University and a bachelor's degree in history from Western Oregon University. I have won awards for my own essay writing over the years, and my writing has been published in various outlets. Numerous articles of mine have been published in both academic and general-interest publications, and my book about the history of the Supreme Court was published by McFarland Press in 2023. Writing is a crucial skill. Writing does not merely allow us to share our thoughts. It actually helps us to think more critically, exercise our abstract reasoning, and understand the importance of evidence-based argumentation. I can help students hone these skills. I know this because I have a record of doing so, and it is something I very much enjoy. Students are empowered when they can write engagingly and convincingly.

TEFL, and English Literature

I have devoted the greater part of my free time to reading and writing since a young age. I am passion incarnate when it comes to the beauty of language, be it literature, philosophy, or poetry. These days, having exhausted most of the literary canon in English, I find myself extending my theoretical formulations and love to the comparative side of multimedia English studies; film, television, news, art, video games, and so forth, all provide such rich layers of beauty to be explored. This ever-expanding process of the realization of the depth in everything around us is a part of the meaning of life itself, and I want nothing more than to share that wonder with others however I can. Teaching English as a Second Language has given me just such an opportunity. My passion here began when I spent a year abroad in Taiwan as a University exchange student. There I frequented language cafes, did private tutoring, and even helped co-teach a few freshman classes, in addition to the myriad linguistic adventures I'd personally find myself on, engaged with the many friends I made. After graduating with a B.A. in English, I worked as a tutor, online and in person, for three years. Now, I've also received a TEFL certificate. Most of my years of experience tutoring does come in the form of plain English Literature and Language. However, now I find myself with the focus on the cross-cultural pursuit of TEFL because it provides such bursts of desire and motivation. So much more is new, for everyone involved! I am sure that my many years of tutoring my little sisters, friends, fellow students, and the like, can help us all along this path of learning English.

College Preparatory Mentor

I started my life long passion for Art and Art History when I was only 7 years old when I traveled to see the Louvre for the first time. Art had always been my favorite subject, but when I began visiting museums and seeing the history right before me, my love of learning about the greatest artists, quickly grew. I currently thoroughly enjoy visiting museums to experience the art myself, as well as read about the lives and curations of many artists of all different styles. Throughout High School and College I studied Art and Art history extensively by taking AP and college level courses and excelled with A’s and scoring 4’s on my AP exams. The Coeur D'Alene Charter Academy and North Idaho College supplemented the predominance of my education and allowed me to be hands-on with learning by tutoring others in my classes. This tutoring included supplemental teaching outside of class for other students, quizzing, as well as providing art classes to those in the class below mine. As my career developed, I continued my teaching with art and taught art classes for ages 8-60 at high end golf clubs, as well as in my own community. The classes ranged from painting, drawing, collage, and sculpture with a main focus for realism. By having a lot of experience with different age groups, I have been able to broaden my ways of teaching to meet the demands of many different students of all skill levels, and I believe that could be an asset for your students’ futures.
