I have applied, and gone, to both undergraduate and graduate schools and know first hand the power of a good essay, and the power of a great essay tutor. I worked with many essay tutors who showed me the tricks to use, and the pitfalls to avoid when writing these types of essays. And they were never very obvious, for high schools teach the power of an academic essay, with a thesis, topic sentence, conclusion etc etc. But they don't necessarily teach you how to have a voice, how to add whimsy, and how to add the magic that is YOU. This is where the tutors showed me the roads to success.
I got into my top choices of schools, Wellesley College, Columbia University, and Yale University. I credit these victories in large part due to my essay, and my writing abilities in general. I think I may have even won an award for them from Mount Holyoke College. But that aside, I am passionate about telling stories, and communicating to an audience. And the admissions elves behind the scenes are a very specific type of audience, and are looking for magic sentences that are unique. This is where I can help. I am an actor, I just got my MFA from Columbia in acting, and I know how to perform under pressure and communicate something magical. I know how to win an audience over. Additionally, as an actor, one often has to write one's own material, or pitch something, or invite people, and I have done it all.
I have helped peers in college with their essays, taken advanced writing classes, and written countless papers on Music History/theory, Ancient History, Physics,...and oddly enough I've written many papers on Hobbits. I believe that I have the je ne sais quoi, and the experience to help a student going through this daunting time, and give them the support they need to find their inner strength in their own voice.
