I was born and raised in Senegal, which is a Francophone West African country. In Senegal, I studied French for 10 years. I was born and raised in Senegal, which is a Francophone West African country. In Senegal, I studied French for 10 years, so I have a very good understanding of the language. When I came to the United States five years ago, I struggled to learn English, so I know how it feels to desperately want to learn a new language. When I arrived in 9th grade, I felt overwhelmed. I had to catch up with everyone else by learning English, getting good grades, and getting involved in enough extracurricular activities to help me get into a good college. It was frustrating, but I learned to manage it. I just wished that on my way there was somebody to help me; I wish I didn't do it all alone. Despite the hardship, I am grateful for my journey because I did end up learning the language, obtaining a 94,76% GPA, and I got into my dream college, NYU. My goal now is to help other students learn a new language, and hopefully, they won't feel as frustrated and overwhelmed as I did when I learned it but instead will feel joyful and supported. I have been a French and English tutor for over a year now at the International High School at Union Square and I assist NYU professors give French lessons. I hope to expand my experience and keep helping students learn new languages by being a French tutor through in Lessonpal.
