Dedicated to academic success!

Regarding my background and content expertise, I went to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth to earn a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics through their Computer Oriented Mathematics Program and then completed all coursework toward a Master of Arts in Teaching 5-12 entirely online through Western Governors University, which I found to be an exciting way to learn and produce work. In my employment history, I spent 7 years teaching pre-algebra, intro to algebra, algebra 1 and 2, and geometry at Brockton High School. I taught Math courses after school in many programs, including an exciting program teaching Algebra and Geometry in Spanish for our Latino cohort. I spent several years, prior to COVID, home teaching students who had been hospitalized, behavioral and mental health disorders, or pending convictions. I was devoted to educating in this community where I taught at the adult learning center to teach parents to speak English. All of these teaching experiences have allowed me to embrace fundamental perspectives in teaching. I am fascinated with technology and tools used to make education more active, engaging, and exciting because they incite innovation and creativity. I am also inspired by art, music, culture, and dance. I have developed some of these skills with 4 years of art lessons, 15 years of piano lessons in classical music, 8 years of Spanish classes, and various Latino and African dance classes. I am fascinated with the diversity in our communities and ultimately found myself in one of the most rewarding careers as an educator. My goal is to inspire students, guide them toward academic success, and inspire creativity in their own mediums and metacognitions in ways that they can embrace themselves and feel safe to explore information and knowledge. I live for collaboration and feedback, and I make it a priority to be supportive. My friends and colleagues recognize me especially for possessing extraordinary levels of patience, understanding.

Veteran Educator in American History, Journalism, and Essay Writing

In the world of journalism, the need to foster and hone new talent has never been greater. It's one thing to teach the basics of journalistic writing, but quite another to shape young minds into award-winning journalists. As the adviser for The Gator, which can be accessed at https://bmgator.org/, I have had the profound privilege of doing precisely that. The Gator is not just a student newspaper; it's a laboratory of journalistic excellence. Under my guidance, it has morphed into a platform where students not only refine their writing skills, but also test their mettle in real-world journalistic scenarios. Their consistent dedication to producing impactful and insightful stories has been recognized on national platforms, leading The Gator to earn numerous accolades and distinctions. The core of my teaching philosophy lies in helping people find and polish their unique voices. Through The Gator, students learn to approach stories with a blend of curiosity and responsibility, while also internalizing the tenets of journalistic integrity. These lessons have resulted in our students distinguishing themselves as some of the nation's most promising and accomplished student journalists. While I am deeply committed to nurturing budding talent, I also continue to contribute to the journalistic field. My own reporting, reflecting a blend of seasoned experience and fresh insights, is available at https://dcutler.pressfolios.com/. This personal involvement ensures I stay attuned to the ever-changing demands and nuances of the industry, enriching my teachings with current, real-world examples.
