About
Hi! I'm Katie. I'm from a small town outside of Boston, MA. I graduated college last spring and received my BA in English Language and Literature. For the last several years, I've been working as a su... bstitute teacher and as a part-time babysitter. Somehow amongst working and studying, I've also managed to write several fiction novels that I'm currently in the process of publishing.
I started tutoring when I was in the sixth grade. I found it extremely rewarding to assist my peers when they were struggling. I became close friends with the students I tutored, and many are still my friends today! I fell even more in love with tutoring as I grew older and the material became more complex. Though education is not something I want to pursue as my career, I absolutely love teaching/tutoring and would love to continue doing so!
I have more experience tutoring children from preschool age to sixth grade with an emphasis on elementary education. However, I am open to working with additional age groups and proficiency levels.
I have experienced dozens of instances of students being unable to comprehend material, but unfortunately, they are unable to ace it because their instructor has to move forwards. More often than not, one or two students do not receive the extra help they need because the majority is prepared to move on. One of my goals is to ensure that each of my students can comprehend, retain, and repeat the information presented to them. With me, there is no such thing as 'moving on' from key grammar or writing skills because of a timeline that suits the majority rather than the few students who require extra assistance.
I am prepared to offer brief movement breaks for young students who find it difficult to sit still and pay attention to lessons. I have many interactive and entertaining methods of presenting information that will keep students engaged. I want each student to be excited for their lessons with me rather than dreading learning.read more
