ESL Teacher w/ 3 years of experience

I love teaching English as a Second Language so much that I got a Masters degree in TESOL. Not only that, but I have also taught ESL for two years at the college level, and one year at the elementary level. I've had two wonderful years of experience teaching Writing, Reading, Listening, Speaking, Conversation, Culture, and more! I love to have fun with my students and build personal connections with them. I put my students at the forefront of their learning, and I use their interests to guide my lessons. I try out new activities often, helping my students have fun while they learn. For example, I have used TikTok and online RPG stories in lessons before, and I love to experiment with online games like Gartic Phone and Jeopardy. Part of the reason I love teaching ESL is because it allows me to learn as much as I teach. I have taught a variety of students from different cultures, backgrounds, and religious views. Learning more about my students' expectations for me and their English learning helps me meet my students on their level, and provide them with an individualized approach for every lesson. Every person who pursues English as a foreign language has different approaches, motivations, and reasons for studying English. If you want a tutor who utilizes your individual English learning needs and creates lessons that intrigue and motivate you, I'll see you in my class! :)

Brett Chosewood
Alto, GA

Teacher, Tutor, Lifelong Learner

Hello! My name is Brett Chosewood, and I am an English and Language Arts teacher from Georgia in the United States. I have taught both locally and abroad (in countries such as China, Dubai, and Mexico) for over twelve years. In addition, I also have extensive experience in writing, editing, and communication. My education includes a Bachelor’s in English and a Master’s in English Education (Teaching), both obtained from Piedmont College. I am also currently pursuing a PhD in English Composition from Old Dominion University. I love teaching and tutoring because I get to work with students to meet their individual needs. Each student is unique, and I truly love helping my students achieve their goals. I want to be a valuable resource in the lives of those I help, using my experience as a student and as a teacher. Nothing makes me feel prouder than seeing my students succeed. They teach me as much as I teach them. My style of teaching involves building a strong rapport with my students, determining their individual needs, and tailoring my sessions with them to meet those needs. I try to get feedback from and assess students regularly to ensure they are understanding lesson concepts and progressing appropriately. My greatest accomplishment was developing the entire English curriculum for a high school in Sichuan, China. I taught there for a year, and when I began my job, there was no curriculum. I assessed the needs of the students, developed the curriculum for ESL and Literature, and set appropriate bench parts. The result was that all students saw a significant increase in their TOEFL scores. My desire is to bring the same effort and success to your students!
