My informal training in music was learning songs by ear in rock bands and church music in the late sixties and early seventies. My formal training in music was at California State University, Fullerton where I had an extremely gifted professor who taught a class called, Music Theory & Sight-singing. This was a cornerstone in my education at California State University, Fullerton where I had earned a BA and MA in Music Education. I was an intermediate school choir director for 7 years and a high school choir director for 27 years. It was here where I applied my informal training in music with the my formal training. It was at the intermediate school where I had my singers put into writing what they heard by ear. This took the form of rhythmic and melodic dictation, and intervallic ear training. Then we began sight-singing short exercises that were portions from the music we were learning. I had found that, if student learn music by ear, then it helps them to hear the sound of what they are reading.

Since the introduction Khan Academy course I took in sixth grade, Computer Science has never left my life and I'm happy for it. From middle school to highschool, I have been worked on my skills through learning languages, such as Python and Java, and through programming many types of robots. My highschool allowed us to take Advanced Placement courses from sophomore year on and since then I have received mostly 5s on my exams, two of which were Computer Science ones. In highschool, I was additionally the Lead Programmer for the Robotics Team for almost four years. It has been nothing but fun attending all the Robotics meets, programming hackathons, and Cybersecurity competitions. Currently, I am a Computer Science major and have joined numerous clubs centered around that including Gamespawn, which is a game development club, and the Cyber club, which focuses on Cybersecurity. Both clubs have brought me various experiences to add to my background ranging from Game Jams to Capture the Flags to even Junior Officer positions. I understand the intimidating factor of Computer Science, especially for many children, however that is exactly what I aim to eliminate. Utilizing my experience and skillsets, I wish to be able to offer guidance and inspire young minds to not only learn this valuable field of knowledge but also to raise their self-confidence and be able to challenge themselves.
