My informal training in music was learning songs by ear in rock bands and church music in the late sixties and early seventies. My formal training in music was at California State University, Fullert... on where I had an extremely gifted professor who taught a class called, Music Theory & Sight-singing. This was a cornerstone in my education at California State University, Fullerton where I had earned a BA and MA in Music Education. I was an intermediate school choir director for 7 years and a high school choir director for 27 years. It was here where I applied my informal training in music with the my formal training. It was at the intermediate school where I had my singers put into writing what they heard by ear. This took the form of rhythmic and melodic dictation, and intervallic ear training. Then we began sight-singing short exercises that were portions from the music we were learning. I live in Irvine California, and have taught choir in Santa Ana, California for 34 years. I'm currently retired. In my free time, I like to exercise, spend time with my family, play the piano/guitar/b... ass guitar, and write/arrange music on Sibelius.
