Alexia Reed
Grand Forks, ND

Former College Instructor and Current English and Writing Teacher/Tutor

I have over 4 years of experience tutoring writing and English-related subjects. I graduated from Rosemont college with a B.A. in English literature and writing and spent some time in a creative writing M.F.A. program before finishing my M.A. in English at the University of North Dakota. I have spent two years teaching freshmen composition courses and this will be my second year teaching AP English Language and Composition. In high school, I was an honors student at the top of my class and received all A's in my English classes while taking many extracurriculars. I have since gone on to explore the many fields of English beyond literature to technical writing, journalism, debate, proposal writing, genre-specific studies, and more. With the burgeoning fields of technological careers, my interests have shifted towards optimizing writing and language skills for students based on their wants, needs, and especially their bright futures. Working as a teacher both in-person and online has given me experience and skills with both. I have curated materials for teaching and tested methods with a variety of students with diverse needs and learning styles. I've worked with demographics of high-achieving students, international students, and students with disabilities as well so I recognize some of the unique challenges students face and need with extra tutoring. Ultimately, my goal is to make student's independent learners and confident in their writing skills.

Passionate Physical Education Teacher Promoting Health and Fitness.

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, which has provided me with a solid understanding of exercise science, kinesiology, and the principles of physical fitness. During my academic journey, I had the opportunity to conduct research on effective teaching methodologies in Physical Education, allowing me to grasp the latest trends and best practices in the field. My own personal commitment to physical fitness and sports has been a driving force in my desire to teach this subject. I have been an active participant in various sports and fitness activities throughout my life, and I've experienced firsthand the transformative impact that a well-rounded Physical Education program can have on an individual's health and well-being. I am also deeply dedicated to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment. I believe in the power of physical education not just to promote physical health, but also to foster essential life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and goal setting. My enthusiasm for inspiring students to embrace a healthy and active lifestyle is unwavering. Furthermore, I am eager to collaborate with experienced educators, attend workshops, and undergo training as necessary to develop the practical teaching skills required for this role. My passion, dedication, and willingness to learn make me a strong candidate to embark on a teaching career in Physical Education and contribute to the development and well-being of future generations.

Ceci Boche
Brainerd, MN

University of Minnesota Undergrad Student

Throughout high school, I took a huge interest in social studies, taking all of the courses I could -- AP Human Geography, AP World History, AP U.S. History, and AP Government. I also took every other AP course offered by my school including AP Language, AP Literature, AP Psychology, AP Biology, AP Seminar, and AP Research. I graduated high school as a distinguished honor roll student. From there I decided that politics and government were my passion so I changed my major to Political Science and added a History Minor. I will be graduating with my Bachelor's of Arts in August 2024. My major GPA is 3.9 as I have never received less than an A- in any political science course. I have made my college's Dean's List for both Fall and Spring 2023 in recognition of my academic achievement. I have taken courses in all subjects including but not limited to: international relations, political theory, comparative governments, and U.S. government. I have taken history courses focusing on Europe, the Middle East, and America which has helped greatly in my understanding of foreign and domestic politics. My knowledge in political science ranges from current issues to ancient political ideology and structures. Being that I've taken so many intense courses throughout my education, I understand what it feels like to be an overwhelmed and struggling student. It took me many years to understand what study styles worked for me and how to productively learn. It can be very difficult to manage multiple classes as a student if they cannot develop a study method that works for them. In many cases, it took collaboration from others for me to fully understand. I am hoping to help students find their personal study methods so they can succeed in their education and become confident in their knowledge.

Beth Hautala
Deerwood, MN

Published Author, Creative Writer, and Writing Instructor

I'm a writer, published author (three works of fiction out from Penguin Random House), and a writing instructor. I work diligently to tell stories effectively and with beauty, pursuing excellence in language, respect for character and personhood, appreciation of diversity, and growth on and off the page. With 20+ years of experience in essay writing, tutoring, story and plot development, publishing insight, book-writing, freelancing, creative writing, copywriting, and proof-writing, I am engaged in classroom environments and in teaching/course development for students of all ages. I love helping my students work towards their own writing goals, whether it be educational, professional, or personal. There is power in language, and learning to wield words in order communicate effectively is a skill that can further every aspect of our lives. I am patient and empathetic with my students, regardless of their ability or experience as I believe every story is worth being told and that "talent" is little more than skill exercised through practice, commitment, a willingness to learn, and ultimately the joy found through connecting with readers. • My Vision: To use the written and spoken word to educate, challenge, encourage, entertain, and build up hearts and minds in my community, my circle, and beyond. • My Mission: To write effectively and with beauty, making mindful and intentional use of tools, opportunity, and time. • My Values: I believe that excellence in language, respect, appreciation of diversity, and perseverance in partnership with challenge, are preludes to health in all facets of life.
