About
If someone had told middle-school Maddie that she would eventually pursue dual degree in Chemistry and Pre-Med, she would be shocked. As a younger student, I truly struggled with all areas STEM-relate... d. However, I'm lucky to say that I eventually found several teachers who were willing to put in the time and effort to see me succeed in science and math. A big component of my desire to tutor comes from my conviction that all kids should have access to the same sort of support that I found – especially when I've personally experienced the path-altering effects of a little encouragement. Not only did I find my passions for chemistry and anthropology, but I also graduated top 10% of my high school class and earned a 1510 on the SAT.
While I specialize in math and science (all levels), I was also the copy editor for my school newspaper and won an essay-writing contest to study at Oxford during the summer of 2020. Outside of the classroom, I've found my love for helping kids achieve the confidence to pursue their goals from volunteering at DC-area charter schools and working with elementary-age students to learn everyday material. In addition, I have a couple of years tutoring my peers and leading discussion sections.read more

In Science Journal Club, our members would read publications by alumnae from my high school in the s... tyle of a book-club. Moreover, we would invite the speaker back to discuss the paper with us – an element that opened up many research opportunities to our club members. In leading the club, I cultivated time management and organizational skills. Particularly, I regularly corresponded with each author and club members to set up a convenient meeting time, in addition to planning which papers to discuss in advance. Learning with real-time professionals, I developed my understanding of how scientific experiments are created and conducted and how to prevent sources of error. I also learned to discern the difference between scientific conclusions that are data-dependent, and those that skew the data to fit their hypothesis.read more
