The question is: Why would I make a good tutor? The answer? My ears work. I am not a “Cookie Cutter” tutor, and I have found that by listening attentively, I can not only see how far along the student is, but also acquire clues as to what aspects of the lessons come easy, and which ones pose the most difficulty. Not everyone is traveling at the same speed. I will adjust my lesson plans for each student, so we can meet and work at a comfortable pace. One of the aims is to improve our speed; but the main goal is to make sure that the student actually understands what is being taught. I do this in a variety of ways, one of which is role-playing. There is only so much information that a person can take in at one time, so I try to avoid overload. When a lesson is finished, I like to do a quick conversational review that covers what we covered, which allows me to adjust the next session accordingly.
