Jennifer LidarBeaumont, CAReading Interventionist/Elementary Math Tutor
For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to help others. I became aware of my teaching talent when I was asked to teach a preschool class. After that experience, I knew that I wanted to be a teacher. Special education has been rewarding. Each day is a new opportunity to make possible a child’s development, confidence, and positive outlook on school and learning.
I have been a special education teacher for the past 15 years, with the past two years spent studying to be a reading specialist for students with learning disabilities. I employ research-based strategies that focus on the individual needs of the student. Since reading is multi-faceted, the focus on comprehension, fluency, spelling, etc. is also important.
I use a variety of diagnostic tools to identify literacy challenges and to determine the types of instruction that will be needed to help students become confident readers and writers. I also have experience working with English Language Learners and hold a certificate within my teaching credential.
I have had success in teaching reading to students with learning disabilities. It is possible with the techniques discussed and diligent home practice, a student can improve their reading. It is never too late to start!
