Bachelors of Arts, Masters of Fine Arts, Actor/Playwright/Screenwriter/Novelist/Filmmaker

I have been writing novels, screenplays, plays, songs and poetry for her fifteen years. I also studied theatre at both the undergrad with a Bachelor's of Arts from Western Michigan University and graduate level with a Masters of Fine Arts from the University of California, San Diego. I am an expert in script analysis and story building. I like to dive deep into how to build a fictional world from the ground up, and creating characters whose motives are logical within the world that is built. My favorite genres are magical realism, science fiction, historical fiction, and crime dramas. I use my skills in writing and world building as an actor as well. I create each character as I would the worlds I create in fiction. I start with the simple traits(i.e. "what does my character carry in his pocket" "What is my character's favorite breakfast food" etc.) so that I can find a completely fulfilled character I can embody. I have acted in numerous theatre's across the country such as the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Seattle Repertory theatre. In these lessons I will follow the principles your instructor has laid out for you and help you reach the highest potential your work can achieve by looking for specifics and help flesh out the world and characters you are creating. I will also help you with script analysis so you can continue thinking deeper about your ideas as you continue on the path of world-building.

Luther Blackwell

Luther unique talents as educator, instrumentalist, conductor, vocal coach, song writer.

I'm into cool stuff like making videos, helping with school, and saving important parts of our culture. I've done a bunch of awesome things that have made a big impact in the world of arts and learning. I work as a video person for Connecticut Schools, thanks to President Obama's idea called Arts and Humanities TurnAround Arts Initiative. Basically, I use cameras to tell stories that make learning more fun. I've captured how art can really change students' lives, making them feel more creative and powerful. Back in 2003, a musical I put together called "Marginal Saints" won a big prize at the New York International Fringe Festival. It was a cool moment where I showed how good I am at creating interesting stories on stage. I also made a documentary about the football legend Jim Brown, called "Jim Brown UNPLUGGED," using my skills in making films and telling stories. I'm also in charge of helping out DJ Tony Crush, who's the Founder and part of The Legendary Cold Crush Brothers. DJ Crush has been inducted into the Smithsonian African American History and Culture as one of the Pioneer of Hip-Hop Music. It's a big deal, and it shows how I care about keeping the legacy of important artists alive. I'm a super creative songwriter and have made more than 400 songs and music for shows in Off-Broadway. I've even worked with famous conductors such as: the late and great Leonard Bernstein of the New York Philharmonic, Seji Osawa of the Boston Symphony, Laurence Gilgore Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Connecticut Grand Opera and Orchestra, and Mr. Jessie Chapman Artistic, Director and Principal Conductor of the Westhill Chamber Singers, showing I can do lots of different things in the music world.

History: Let's Go! Educator

Ever since I can remember I have loved the history of the ancient world and ancient Egypt in particular. I am trying to raise money for a graduate program focusing on Egyptology. I received a Bachelor of Arts from Sweet Briar college where I majored in history and minored in archaeology. As an undergraduate in 2011 I was able to travel to Egypt twice and see a great majority of the archaeological sites. Most of my knowledge about Ancient Egypt has been gained independently and covers Egypt's pre-history, pharaonic Period (Old Kingdom-New Kingdom), and the role of women in ancient Egypt. I have created and taught multiple 4 and 8 week courses on the history of ancient Egypt for the Osher Life-Long Learning Program: Women in Ancient Egypt, the 1999 Film the Mummy (where did it give real things about ancient Egyptian culture and what was ‘Hollywoodized’), Sites in Depth, Egypt and the Outside World, and the Chronology of Egypt. I have a basic understanding of and can teach Egyptian hieroglyphics as well. In 2019 I received a Master's in Museum Studies and History from Tufts University. I welcome both adult and young adult learners. My lessons and tutoring are designed for the following groups: school age students who need assistance in the history of ancient Egypt and those learners that just want to dive further into the topic for fun! I also have located and can point students towards a sizable group of scholarly Egyptology books, online resources, and searchable museum databases for the study of ancient Egypt.
