Ricky MunozFairfax, VAUS, Latin American, and World History
I am a fourth-year at the University of Mary Washington, where I study both history and geography. I am intensely passionate about both, and I love how both disciplines represent the continuity and change of events and landscapes, and how interpretations and differing views affect our understanding of our past and the places we live.
My concentration is in both the history and geography of Latin America, but I am well versed in US history and geography, and European history. In addition, I have also studied other more abstract histories, like the history of conspiracy theories, among others. I recently completed my undergraduate thesis about the Dominican Republic, and its relationship with the United States from 1870 to 1924 (which I would love to talk about if you're interested!)
In addition to my direct scholarly interests, I am also the current champion of the American Association of Geographers Southeast Division's World Geography Bowl, and ranked sixth nationwide. I also served as the Vice President of my university's International Relations Organization for two years, discussing foreign affairs and diplomatic history, and helping our Model United Nations team reach national recognition as one of the top 100 teams in the country.
I hope to provide a unique and in-depth look into historical concepts through a more interdisciplinary approach than you might otherwise receive. Not only am I looking forward to teaching the events and concepts themselves, but how to interpret history, how it is written, who is writing it, and much more. I love history, and I hope to impart that passion to you through engaging and interesting lessons.
