Justin TchernovBirmingham, ALStudying for a Double Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry and Advanced Physics with Math Minor
My interest for chemistry began in 8th grade, when I was introduced to balancing simple chemical equations as a small side-section for our physical sciences class. Next, I took chemistry in 10th grade, and AP chemistry in 11th grade. As a Chemistry Major at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, I took general chemistry 1 and 2 my freshman year, which very much mirrored the content of AP chemistry in high school. Afterwards, I went on to complete honors organic chemistry 1 and 2, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, quantitative analysis, along with instrumental analysis and chemistry research credits.
I have volunteered with the Student Association of the American Chemical Society (SAACS) at UAB, as well as work for 3.5 years as a teaching assistant and stockroom assistant for the chemistry teaching labs, along with helping organize a summer science-outreach program called HotScience.
On top of that, I worked for 2 years in a research lab that involved sol-gel chemistry to produce AC-electrospun nanofibers, where I spent 2 summers in a row collaborating with university partners in Łódź of Poland and Liberec of the Czech Republic.
