Ayesha WeerakoonBaton Rouge, LAUndergraduate student at Louisiana State University- Chemistry major
I tutored Algebra I and II in Sri Lanka from 2018 to 2021. I helped grade 8, 9, 10, and 11 students who preparing for Ordinary Level examinations in Sri Lanka. Also, I was volunteering in a program called Sasnaka Sansada, which is a program to help students with Mathematics in rural schools in Sri Lanka.
Also, I helped some students with pre-calculus too. Using an online platform to teach math will be quite challenging, but there is nothing impossible.
The Sri Lankan Mathematics syllabus is different from that in the USA (as far as I have seen), but the Algebra syllabus is almost similar. I completed Calculus I with an A and Calculus II with an A+ at LSU in the last two semesters, and I am taking Calculus III in the fall of 2023. I was always dealing with algebra even in Chemistry classes.
Math is an enjoyable subject; therefore, if I can teach someone Algebra, I think I can make the person I am helping with math also enjoy Math.
