About
Hi! My name is Sarah and I am originally from Seattle, WA. I recently moved to Amherst, MA to pursue a doctorate in Higher Education. I have been passionate about student access, learning, education, ... student development, and mental health for my entire academic and professional career. As a mentor and advisor to hundreds of students over the past 5 years in higher education, I have had the opportunity and privilege to be part of student's growth. I love mentorship! Nothing is more gratifying to me than watching a student have a breakthrough. That's why I do what I do!
As a teacher, I am empathetic, patient, and flexible. I love using analogies to help students grasp a concept. I want to make the information relevant to the student. I believe the ultimate goal of student learning is to help the student create their own meaning from the material, and see how it connects to their lived experience. I achieve this goal through knowing my students- the tutoring relationship is at the center of all learning.
Outside of work, I am a huge cat lover and cook. I am always open to new recipes and love talking about food! I am a fan of cold weather so fall and winter are my happy place. I am excited to meet you!read more
