About
My name is Matt, and I'm a working bassist, composer, guitarist, arranger, and producer living in LA. I grew up in the Midwest ... I'm a music lifer. A lot of my baby pictures are in front of a piano,... holding a guitar, or occasionally pretending my little toy tennis racquet was an electric guitar.
I started violin at age four, but it wasn't my thing. It was onto piano at age six, but when I picked up a bass at age 12 my world changed. Bass took me to Oberlin Conservatory, where I studied with Peter Dominguez and Eddie Gomez, to countless basements, bars, and clubs, around the country, and even helped me learn guitar!
I love all kinds of music, and have played all kinds. I believe that with solid enough musical fundamentals and an inquisitive mind, you can play any kind of music well. A lot of what I've learned I've learned from songs, and believe that they're a powerful tool in our quest to learn music. So I'd love to help you learn music through the songs that you love.
I love music, and I love talking to people, so teaching music is a natural fit! I hope we can get to know each other – I'd love to help you find your voice, and connect with music in a way that's uniquely your own.read more
