When I teach spelling, I use the Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check method with my 4th graders to help them practice and remember their words. Look: First, I show the students the spelling word and ask t... hem to study it carefully. I tell them to notice any patterns, tricky parts, or sounds that stand out. This gives them a mental picture of the word. Say: Next, we say the word aloud together. I might ask them to break it into syllables or sound it out if it helps. This step connects the sound of the word to its spelling, making it easier to remember. Cover: After we've said the word, I ask students to cover it up. This challenges them to visualize the word without seeing it. Write: Now, with the word covered, I have students write it down on their own. They focus on remembering what they saw and heard in the previous steps. Check: Finally, we uncover the word, and the students check their spelling against the original. If they got it wrong, they repeat the steps. If they got it right, I encourage them to try spelling it again later for extra practice.read more
