Erich EbertsSomers, NYPhD, Biologist, Research Scientist, Teacher, Mentor
As a scientist, writing is one of my most important and valuable skills, and I love helping others progress in their own journey to becoming better writers and therefore better thinkers.
I have mentored hundreds of students on writing, and developed an absolute love for both academic, informal, and personal writing myself. My basic method of guiding students through the writing process is to: identify a question and a working thesis, brainstorm, redefine the thesis, outline, draft, read and identify inconsistencies and gaps in the story, revise, and revise, revise, revise, and revise some more (I usually don’t consider a piece of writing to be fully complete until at least draft 5!).
If you are interested in my help with writing, we will have an initial session where we discuss your questions and topic, brainstorm, and establish a basic outline. Then at home, you will work up a rough first draft, contacting me if you have any particular issues or need any quick advice. At the second meeting we will read through the draft and make notes/ comments as we go, and then prioritize the list of comments and discuss how to adjust, focusing on the most important things first. You will then work up a second draft before the next session, and this process would continue until the we reach the deadline or are satisfied with the work and the progress the student has made.
Overall, I hope my expertise and dedication will help my students grow to love the writing (and thinking) process!
