Award Winning English Prof Makes Writing Easy

I have been teaching freshmen college students from developmental to advanced since 1994. My freshmen composition students my second year teaching at IUS, 9 out of 14 of them placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in national and state essay contests writing on Toni Morrison's _Beloved_ which is a challenge. I won the Distinguished Teaching Award that semester and year, beating out all the faculty there with years of history with them. I loved bringing the wonder and joy of books to students and am very good at making r reading "addicts" out of even reluctant readers because I look into them and can sense the perfect book to get them HOOKED. One of the best ways to get in shape for college comp I an II ... f you purchase your son, daughter, or self, clusters of five classes and you want to master every form the college essays you'll write even at the M.A. level. During these clusters, I'll use those five classes and help you really master every form of essay you'll encounter from argumentative/persuasive to informative, to the descriptive essay, and compare/contrast (harder than it sounds). Then we'll tackle the "critical thinking paper. It will take about 25 classes to get you doing advanced research papers of A quality but when you can do that, you are assuring your son, daughter, or self a future of more academic success than you would have enjoyed, because now you'll know how to handle every type of writing assignment you'll encounter till you graduate and beyond.

Brett Chosewood
Alto, GA

Teacher, Tutor, Lifelong Learner

Hello! My name is Brett Chosewood, and I am an English and Language Arts teacher from Georgia in the United States. I have taught both locally and abroad (in countries such as China, Dubai, and Mexico) for over twelve years. In addition, I also have extensive experience in writing, editing, and communication. My education includes a Bachelor’s in English and a Master’s in English Education (Teaching), both obtained from Piedmont College. I am also currently pursuing a PhD in English Composition from Old Dominion University. I love teaching and tutoring because I get to work with students to meet their individual needs. Each student is unique, and I truly love helping my students achieve their goals. I want to be a valuable resource in the lives of those I help, using my experience as a student and as a teacher. Nothing makes me feel prouder than seeing my students succeed. They teach me as much as I teach them. My style of teaching involves building a strong rapport with my students, determining their individual needs, and tailoring my sessions with them to meet those needs. I try to get feedback from and assess students regularly to ensure they are understanding lesson concepts and progressing appropriately. My greatest accomplishment was developing the entire English curriculum for a high school in Sichuan, China. I taught there for a year, and when I began my job, there was no curriculum. I assessed the needs of the students, developed the curriculum for ESL and Literature, and set appropriate bench parts. The result was that all students saw a significant increase in their TOEFL scores. My desire is to bring the same effort and success to your students!

College Application and Essay Consultant

As a college professor, I have inside knowledge of how universities work, what competitive universities look for in the students they admit, and how to boost holistic student success. I became interested in college admissions when my son was a senior in high school. As I helped him research his options and increase his chances of admission into highly selective universities, I realized that there is a daunting amount of information that most students and parents don’t have. I took it upon myself to become an expert in multiple aspects of the college admissions process, including: • Building a holistic extracurricular profile • Navigating AP and dual-enrollment credit • Selecting appropriate reach, target, and safety schools • Developing a compelling Common App essay • Writing and organizing strong supplemental essays • Navigating early decision, early action, and regular decision deadlines • SAT and ACT testing, including when to apply test-optional • Differences between the Common App, Coalition App, and University of California App • Financial Aid (FAFSA) and the CSS (College Board) Profile I am enthusiastic about passing along the knowledge and experience I have gained to other students and their families! I can offer comprehensive college admissions consulting or provide targeted assistance in any of these areas. As the author of six published books and dozens of published essays, I can also offer expert writing advice to help students create college essays that get them noticed.
