A Rutgers undergraduate student studying linguistics and creative writing

All throughout high school, I have been studying journalism and worked to become a staff writer for my local high school newspaper. In my junior and senior year, I got the position of news story editor. Additionally, in my junior year, due to the impacts that COVID-19 had on schools, students, teachers, and parents, I - with the help of five other high school volunteers and support from the school board - created a free virtual reading and writing program where during the summer, students in grade school, specifically grades between 3rd and 6th, would be able to read a variety of books at their level while receiving weekly creative writing prompts related to the book sections that they read. The high school volunteers and I would collaborate on weekly lesson plans, from the prompts to the questions we'd ask to the children regarding the sections they've read. We would also provide feedback on the prompts submitted. Over 40 students enrolled into the program, and we received a lot of positive feedback from the parents according to an end-of-program survey that came out after the program's conclusion. I also had the opportunity to privately tutor a child that went to my program on creative writing. Currently, I am working towards a Creative Writing minor, and was able to accumulate two years of writing experience, specifically works in fiction, poetry, scriptwriting, and screenplay.

Reading/Writing Tutor with a Bachelor of Science in Professional & Technical Writing

I am Abigale, a millennial living in Brooklyn, New York. I currently work as a reading/writing tutor for adult learners studying for GED exams and College Prep. I recently graduated from the New York City College of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Professional & Technical Writing. I graduated with honors and was awarded the status of Cum Laude for all of my efforts. I have also received Dean's List Honor five times. I have been writing for many years, and it has allowed me to learn new and interesting things about myself. I have learned that as long as I have dreams, I can write them down, and discover ways to make them come to fruition. Whether it’s by learning how to express myself more, or pursuing a thought, I am always in the process of learning about myself through writing. Since the art of writing and expression can be subjective, I have learned about condensing and compacting information so that it’s easily accessible to large and diverse groups of people. As a writer, my imagination tends to run wild, so I have adapted to creating content within the confines of the Plain Language Action and Information Network (PLAIN) federal guidelines. These guidelines have allowed me to be expressive and professional while ensuring that my audience understands the information being provided. I truly enjoy writing, and based on my accomplishments, I guess you can assume that I am good at what I do. I have written numerous pieces such as research papers, executive summaries, proposals, feasibility reports, manuals, and more. I am here to help and a session with me will allow you to learn so much about various writing styles and how to format papers for the best outcome. I will take my time to work with you and move at your pace. I will answer all of your questions to the best of my ability. I assure you, you will become a better writer if you take the time and put in the effort during our sessions. I look forward to working with you!

Ivy-League Student/Graudate

I have applied, and gone, to both undergraduate and graduate schools and know first hand the power of a good essay, and the power of a great essay tutor. I worked with many essay tutors who showed me the tricks to use, and the pitfalls to avoid when writing these types of essays. And they were never very obvious, for high schools teach the power of an academic essay, with a thesis, topic sentence, conclusion etc etc. But they don't necessarily teach you how to have a voice, how to add whimsy, and how to add the magic that is YOU. This is where the tutors showed me the roads to success. I got into my top choices of schools, Wellesley College, Columbia University, and Yale University. I credit these victories in large part due to my essay, and my writing abilities in general. I think I may have even won an award for them from Mount Holyoke College. But that aside, I am passionate about telling stories, and communicating to an audience. And the admissions elves behind the scenes are a very specific type of audience, and are looking for magic sentences that are unique. This is where I can help. I am an actor, I just got my MFA from Columbia in acting, and I know how to perform under pressure and communicate something magical. I know how to win an audience over. Additionally, as an actor, one often has to write one's own material, or pitch something, or invite people, and I have done it all. I have helped peers in college with their essays, taken advanced writing classes, and written countless papers on Music History/theory, Ancient History, Physics,...and oddly enough I've written many papers on Hobbits. I believe that I have the je ne sais quoi, and the experience to help a student going through this daunting time, and give them the support they need to find their inner strength in their own voice.
