Jack of All Trades

I have aspired to be an author since I was an eight year old. I have always enjoyed telling stories and finding new ways to relay information. Through my love of writing, I have learned how write in many different genres and styles. I have become a jack of all trades when it comes to both editing and writing and have expertise in writing fiction and nonfiction styles. I have been writing fiction since I was a child. Fictional stories are what I first started out writing. In college, I took five semesters of classes of creative writing and learned many styles including speculative fiction, flash fiction, and lyrical fiction. I have a variety of games and creative techniques that I can provide to my students to help them with idea creation, plot and character development, technical skills like vocabulary expansion and audience awareness, and mental skills like overcoming writer's block. During my time in college, I also learned the art of different types of non-fictional writing. I spent most of my time in college working with scientific papers both in natural sciences like biology and social sciences like sociology and criminal justice. I have written at least two dozen biological scientific papers for experiments that I have either come up with myself or been given the instructions for. Additionally, I have experience with business writing which I started my freshman year when I began to write pitches. I have successfully written five pitches ranging from 90-second elevator pitches to 10 minute speeches on a range of topics from extinction to a new club for my college. I took a semester of grantwriting, during which my small group and I were able to write an entire grant proposal for an actual non-profit in Cleveland to use. I worked for half a semester as a curriculum writer for another non-profit in Akron creating curriculum about entrepreneurial concepts for students aged 8 to 14. Part of the curriculum included a section about how to get published.

College Application and Essay Consultant

As a college professor, I have inside knowledge of how universities work, what competitive universities look for in the students they admit, and how to boost holistic student success. I became interested in college admissions when my son was a senior in high school. As I helped him research his options and increase his chances of admission into highly selective universities, I realized that there is a daunting amount of information that most students and parents don’t have. I took it upon myself to become an expert in multiple aspects of the college admissions process, including: • Building a holistic extracurricular profile • Navigating AP and dual-enrollment credit • Selecting appropriate reach, target, and safety schools • Developing a compelling Common App essay • Writing and organizing strong supplemental essays • Navigating early decision, early action, and regular decision deadlines • SAT and ACT testing, including when to apply test-optional • Differences between the Common App, Coalition App, and University of California App • Financial Aid (FAFSA) and the CSS (College Board) Profile I am enthusiastic about passing along the knowledge and experience I have gained to other students and their families! I can offer comprehensive college admissions consulting or provide targeted assistance in any of these areas. As the author of six published books and dozens of published essays, I can also offer expert writing advice to help students create college essays that get them noticed.
