Lisa McIvorSeattle, WAWriting Coach
I attended Goddard College in Vermont where I completed my MFA in Creative Writing and went on to complete an MA in Transformative Language Arts, which is a therapeutic adjunct for working through grief, loss, and life transitions. For me, all writing, academic or creative, is an opportunity for transformation, for ourselves and for those who read our work. I am also a licensed home health nurse and hold a BA in Social Work from Antioch University and these fields have taught me the art of deep listening and the ability to come alongside my student so that the process of composition or revising of an academic or creative work is truly enhanced by our time together. I also have quite a bit of experience with academic research that is so essential when assisting an a more advanced student. I love working with children of all ages, and as a home health nurse I have worked with children and adults with special needs and have facilitated writing groups for individuals with cerebral palsy for 6 years with UCP's Art is Not an Option program. I have had two books of poetry published, Winter Mother, by Kelsay Books in 2016, and Breathe, that was published by Cherry Grove Editions in 2021. I have had short stories and poems published in literary journals such as Bellowing Arc, 4th Street, and The Soul's Bright Home.
