Christian SmithSaint Louis, MOCommitted to creating a learning environment that is inspiring and encouraging to students.
In the fourth grade, I was given my first opportunity to serve as a student tutor. After two years of serving in this capacity, my sixth-grade teacher selected me to administer spelling tests to my classmates. Without question, through these experiences, I saw first-hand the true benefit of an inclusive educational environment that inspires a life-long love of learning.
As a Reading tutor, I will leverage technology to utilize different modes of instruction, such as visual learning (e.g., charts and diagrams) which allow students with different learning styles to easily recall and retain new information. With years of experience teaching Bible classes to children, as well as serving as a graduate teaching assistant at Biola University, I understand that it takes patience and humility to help students overcome obstacles - as I did while learning to read Biblical Hebrew and Spanish. When all is said and done, I make a concerted effort to understand what works best for my students and adjust my teaching strategies accordingly to help them succeed.
