UC Santa Cruz Graduate Offering Math Tutoring up to Calculus - 3+ Years of Experience

I have been tutoring for over three years, and my teaching approach is centered around understanding you as an individual. Creating a comfortable environment and getting to know you personally, as well as your goals for these lessons, is important to me. I am flexible and willing to work with you at any skill level. If you feel unsure about the overall concept, we can start from scratch using one of my pre-planned lesson plans. I have carefully crafted these lesson plans from my time as a college tutor. This will help us establish a strong foundation for future lessons. On the other hand, if you feel confident about the concept but need more practice, we can work through multiple practice problems together until you can complete them independently. I value getting to know my students, and I'm genuinely interested in hearing about your dreams and passions. I believe in active learning to keep my students engaged throughout the lessons, avoiding a lecturing approach. Tutoring is a collaborative effort between the tutor and the student, working together towards the shared goal of success. There's nothing more fulfilling for me than witnessing the positive outcomes of our lessons. For our first free lesson, our focus will be on getting to know each other better. This will allow me to understand your specific needs and learning style, enabling us to determine if we are a good fit for each other. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions at all!

Good, Supportive Math Teacher, All Children Succeed

I am currently a classroom Mathematics Teacher at a Construction trade school. I am also in the process of enrolling in the Foundational Level Mathematics (FLM) Credential Program, a single subject Teaching Credential that allows me to teach up to Advanced Algebra into High School. For most of the State-Wide Unified School Districts it's acceptable to have the Credential OR be enrolled in a Credential Program. I have studied the subject matter material extensively, so l can sit for the FLM Examinations on short notice. I am a Mathematics subject matter expert and a Mechanical Engineer, so I bring strong Mathematics & Technical Education knowledge, for potential Engineers/Scientists, i.e. Pathways programs for Middle School. I have tutored hundreds of classroom hours with AP/Honors course tutoring over the past six years for our two children, Christina and Christopher Jr. They have been successful with all their AP/Honors level course work in their respective High Schools, as they pursue College at this time. My Teaching and Engineering Professions I took after my Mother (Edna Wade) who was a principal and long-time teacher at Queen of All Saints Parish in Concord, Ca. I have her passion and love for teaching and student growth. I was born in San Francisco and grew up in Concord, Ca. I attended Catholic K-12 schools and graduated with Academic Honors at the prestigious De La Salle Catholic High School in Concord. As a Mechanical Engineering major, I then endured through Diablo Valley J.C. in Pleasant Hill, Ca., taking and getting an A-grade in every Mathematics course that DVC offered. After completing all the lower division Mathematics, Chemistry and College Physics at DVC, I transferred to the University of Alaska in Fairbanks, Alaska for my Mechanical Engineering major and degree. After graduation I worked with a local Engineering firm in the day time and worked toward a Master’s Degree in Engineering Management by attending evening classes.

Math Tutor

Throughout my life, my love for math has grown as it is the only subject that has consistent rules that can be taught to anyone across all languages. When I was in 4th Grade, my teacher saw that I was excelling through her math lessons, so she assigned me to teach my classmates the lessons, as she knew that I could connect better with my peers in explaining these math concepts to them. From 6th Grade to 9th Grade, I have been two years ahead of my peers in math, as I have taken Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2 and earned an A+ in all these subjects. In 10th Grade, due to my success in Algebra 2, I was invited to take a dual enrollment Pre-Calculus course with the University of Texas at Austin, where I not only received an A+ in this class, but I earned college credit in the process. In 11th Grade, I took AP Calculus AB at my high school and Calculus 1 at my local community college where I was earning my Associate’s Degree before graduating from high school. I earned a 100 in both of these classes, while earning a 5 on the AP Calculus AB exam. In 12th Grade, I took Calculus 2 where I also earned a 100 in the class. My success in math allowed me to graduate as valedictorian. Ultimately, while I take pride in these accomplishments, I find lasting satisfaction in seeing a student gain the confidence they need in their own ability to succeed in whatever they set their mind to do, which I instill through teaching mathematics.
