Experienced Highschool Tutor Specializing in Calculus & Algebra

As a current Master's student at University of California, Riverside, I am studying computer engineering, with a special focus on machine learning and data science. Prior to this, I completed my Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering from the National Institute of Technology Silchar, India. Throughout my academic journey, I have sharpened my proficiency in mathematics, various programming languages and statistical tools, and have also acquired Machine Learning and Deep Learning expertise. My passion for teaching sparked during my undergraduate studies when I volunteered to tutor mathematics and statistics to high school students in nearby villages from underprivileged backgrounds. I found immense joy in helping them navigate through the complexities of mathematics and have since then been drawn to teaching. Today, as an international student in the U.S., I am eager to extend this passion by empowering high school students. Also here at UC Riverside, I am part of a program called GradQuant where I provide consultation to graduate students regarding their queries about mathematics and computer science topics. My approach to tutoring is deeply influenced by the Feynman Technique which is all about simplifying complex ideas and ensuring true comprehension, not just memorization. I believe in breaking each concept down to its basic core and then building upon it. I also find great value in using visual aids and real-life examples to make abstract mathematical concepts more concrete and relatable. My ultimate goal is not just to tutor, but to instill a love of learning and help students see the beauty and applicability of math, statistics, and computer science in the world around them. I look forward to being a part of your academic journey and guiding you to success.

UC Student Mentor

At a young age I was passionate with learning about films and hoping that one day I will able to crate my own film. I have had a chance to take many film classes going from middle school to high school even up until my college years. I've written my own screenplays during the pandemic and I've helped many screenwriters when going through their own scripts even getting a chance to act in a short film. I always love to read scripts and imagine that I'm watching the movie a person is pursuing to create. It's important to always remember that your scenes in the script should never be first person. But I'm always passionate with showing a different perspective of films and show people a new view of them even if they don't like the specific film. When it comes to Math I loved learning about the subject at a young age and I still enjoy learning new different techniques of Math, although I may get rusty at times. I excelled at Math during my high school years. In the beginning I wasn't the best, but I learned to teach myself many different techniques and took multiple notes for many of the lessons I learned from the textbook and lectures. I managed to do very well in my honors and IB Math classes during high school, while still learning to teach myself Calculus. History will always have a soft spot for me when it comes to learning another subject ever since I was young especially coming from a family that is devoted with history and politics. Many of my history teachers loved how I would use personal events and connect modern events happening today with the past that would make my own papers seem personal. I always encourage people to make their history papers their own instead of making it feel like the teacher is reading a Wikipedia article. I have excelled in many of my honors and IB history classes during my high school years and I have gone through most of the Ancient World history all the way up to American history and politics.

Ivy-league Graduate student. Computer industry veteran passionate about teaching STEM

I love computer engineering, sciences in general and I love teaching as well. I work full-time as a Hardware Engineer designing complex Application-Specific-Integrated-Circuits (ASIC) GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) at a top computer technology company. In the past I tutored a couple of high-school students AP computer science, and I was a TA for a college-level computer graphics course (programming, algebra, geometry). I am passionate about what I do at work, and I enjoy spreading my passion and knowledge to younger folks as well. I want to inspire more students to become scientists and engineers. A few highlights about my background: -Minored in Math in college. Had excellent grades (at least A-). -800 out of 800 on SAT Math I, II, and AP Calculus. -Majored in Physics in college. Loves physics. -Native speaker of Mandarin Chinese. -Works in the Computer Engineering industry as a Hardware Engineer. "If you cannot explain it to others clearly, then you do not fully understand it." -- Albert Einstein. I believe it is very important to try to explain things from the students' perspective. My tutoring approach is to record the listen to my own explanations of key ideas and concepts, to see if my explanations are clear enough. Also I would collect feedbacks from my students and ask them to explain the concepts back to me to confirm that they have fully understood and grasped them. Feel free to consult me about computer engineering careers if you are interested!
