Mollie Bera

Multi-Knowledgeable Student Teacher

As a student, I have never received below an 89% on an English assignment of any kind, including written, oral, and multiple choice. I have assisted my peers and students younger and older than me with their essays, exam prep, and various types of homework and they have always received a passing score after receiving assistance from me, even if they had failed the assignment multiple times before receiving my assistance. I received 5's on both the AP Literature and Composition and AP Language and Composition exams in 2019 and 2020, and I am currently studying for two Bachelors Degrees in Writing and Psychology: Counseling. Therefore, I utilize both creative and research based writing styles and types of English on a daily basis. Further, I received a perfect score on my Writing SOLS, and placed advanced in every English SOL I took in elementary, middle, and high school. On top of this, I am a member of multiple honors societies, maintain a GPA of 3.96 in my junior year of college, and I am a published poet. I also own a small poetry publication, so I have an eye for creative styles and interpretation. I have mentored middle school, high school, college, and adults through essay writing and I make it easy and understandable for every student. I am always willing to put in the research, time, and effort to help you understand something on your level, even if I have to learn it on my personal time and teach it in a future session. In addition, I have experience teaching the English language to high school and college students who speak English as their second language in Ukraine, Spain, Mexico, Italy, Germany, France, Argentina, Peru, and many other Latin American countries. I have six years of language exchange experience, and I am able to communicate comfortably in English and Spanish. I have also obtained basic levels of French, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, and Afrikaans, and I am actively working to become conversational in those languages.

Brett Chosewood
Alto, GA

Teacher, Tutor, Lifelong Learner

Hello! My name is Brett Chosewood, and I am an English and Language Arts teacher from Georgia in the United States. I have taught both locally and abroad (in countries such as China, Dubai, and Mexico) for over twelve years. In addition, I also have extensive experience in writing, editing, and communication. My education includes a Bachelor’s in English and a Master’s in English Education (Teaching), both obtained from Piedmont College. I am also currently pursuing a PhD in English Composition from Old Dominion University. I love teaching and tutoring because I get to work with students to meet their individual needs. Each student is unique, and I truly love helping my students achieve their goals. I want to be a valuable resource in the lives of those I help, using my experience as a student and as a teacher. Nothing makes me feel prouder than seeing my students succeed. They teach me as much as I teach them. My style of teaching involves building a strong rapport with my students, determining their individual needs, and tailoring my sessions with them to meet those needs. I try to get feedback from and assess students regularly to ensure they are understanding lesson concepts and progressing appropriately. My greatest accomplishment was developing the entire English curriculum for a high school in Sichuan, China. I taught there for a year, and when I began my job, there was no curriculum. I assessed the needs of the students, developed the curriculum for ESL and Literature, and set appropriate bench parts. The result was that all students saw a significant increase in their TOEFL scores. My desire is to bring the same effort and success to your students!

Travis Bray

Ph.D. Chemistry Tutor

I have a natural aptitude for chemistry and an innate ability to make complex concepts accessible for most anyone. I was selected as a tutor for the Valdosta State University Chemistry department due to my professors seeing me excelling at chemistry and helping fellow students to do the same. I taught one year of high school science after graduating with my BS and enjoyed being in the classroom. The experience of watching students who thought science was boring become fascinated by what the were learning was especially rewarding. I left the classroom to continue my own education and entered the graduate program at Auburn University. After a year of teaching freshman chemistry laboratory classes, I was selected to teach senior inorganic laboratory classes due, again, to my mastery of the subject and the ability to make it accessible to young learners. I continued to tutor throughout my graduate and post-doctoral career before leaving science to start a patient advocacy organization for families affected by hereditary colon cancer. I again found myself explaining complex medical terms and surgical procedures to lay people and eventually led the development of patient-friendly educational resources. Most recently, I worked as a subject matter expert for the Electric Power Research Institute, again developing chemistry educational resources for new employees. I truly feel it is a gift to be able to help learners understand the complex field of chemistry and hope to be able to share that gift with you.
