Word Expert, English Teacher, Essay Help

I'm a teacher, a writer, and a reader at heart. I love words, and yes, I love essays, grammar, and helping students improve their writing. I have taught in a full-time, public school for 34 years, so I have a lot of experience working with students on college essays, personal statements, thesis statements, narration, description, exposition, synthesis, persuasion, and research writing. I also have extensive tutoring experience. I love working with high school students to help them with writing, and I especially love helping them discover and refine college essays and personal statements while preserving their authentic voices. College essays are challenging because they require students to write very differently from the way they learned to write every other essay in high school. Providing written feedback to students about how to improve their organization, style, grammar, spelling, and punctuation has been a big part of my job for decades; however, every student learns differently, and I finding what works for each student is like solving a puzzle. I've co-taught with Special Education colleagues in In-Class Resource courses for 20 years and taught students from marginalized communities in a summer program. I've worked with Honors students, and I've worked in an autistic spectrum class in a middle and elementary school. Working with students on their writing is fun for me, and I'd really like to be able to help you with any kind of writing, too!

Nina DeMilta
Henryville, PA

College Access Mentor, Writing Tutor, and Religious Studies Tutor

Hello! My name is Nina and I am a senior at Nazareth University in Rochester, NY. I have had experience tutoring people of all ages in essay writing since my sophomore year of high school. I have been a head editor of my school's literary magazine. This job required me to check grammar, organization, and sentence structure of essays, poems, prose, and other forms of writing. In my high school and collegiate years, I have had experience tutoring individuals from ages 10-40 years old and have adapted to various learning styles. In college, I am a music therapy student with a minor in interfaith studies, which enables me to write different types of essays regularly. For the last three years, I have been a tutor for my university's writing center. This has allowed me to work with various students of different ages and backgrounds, along with helping people write essays from all subjects (science, math, english, history, etc.). I have skills in compassionate mentorship through my major and I love to bring this into my tutoring. My goal is to help people gain confidence in their writing skills and give them the independence to take into their future academics. As a college student, I have experience with scholarship and college essay writing, academic writing (research, rhetorical analysis, argumentative, biographical, clinical, etc.), and creative writing (fiction, poetry, fantasy, etc.). I hope to provide affordable tutoring for those who cannot always afford the high price it takes to further their writing skills. Since I am in college, I am still learning how to be the best tutor possible, therefore I often charge less than that of a professional price.

Abigale Morris
New York, NY

Reading/Writing Tutor with a Bachelor of Science in Professional & Technical Writing

I am Abigale, a millennial living in Brooklyn, New York. I currently work as a reading/writing tutor for adult learners studying for GED exams and College Prep. I recently graduated from the New York City College of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Professional & Technical Writing. I graduated with honors and was awarded the status of Cum Laude for all of my efforts. I have also received Dean's List Honor five times. I have been writing for many years, and it has allowed me to learn new and interesting things about myself. I have learned that as long as I have dreams, I can write them down, and discover ways to make them come to fruition. Whether it’s by learning how to express myself more, or pursuing a thought, I am always in the process of learning about myself through writing. Since the art of writing and expression can be subjective, I have learned about condensing and compacting information so that it’s easily accessible to large and diverse groups of people. As a writer, my imagination tends to run wild, so I have adapted to creating content within the confines of the Plain Language Action and Information Network (PLAIN) federal guidelines. These guidelines have allowed me to be expressive and professional while ensuring that my audience understands the information being provided. I truly enjoy writing, and based on my accomplishments, I guess you can assume that I am good at what I do. I have written numerous pieces such as research papers, executive summaries, proposals, feasibility reports, manuals, and more. I am here to help and a session with me will allow you to learn so much about various writing styles and how to format papers for the best outcome. I will take my time to work with you and move at your pace. I will answer all of your questions to the best of my ability. I assure you, you will become a better writer if you take the time and put in the effort during our sessions. I look forward to working with you!

Isabella Cressotti
New York, NY

New York University Student & Writing Mentor

I have consistently expressed a passion for writing since I was young, enjoying both academic writing and personal creative writing. I possess considerable expertise in different styles of writing and have further helped many of my peers strengthen their essays and accentuate their voice through help with editing and organization. My writing skills stand as my strongest attribute and resulted in my admission to New York University through my two submitted essays. My grades in writing and English classes have remained above average over the years, and I scored a 4 on the Advanced Placement English Language and Composition exam. I have recently taken a Writing the Essay class during my freshman year of college, which focused on the process of writing an essay. Recently, I was also invited to submit one of my essays to NYU's Mercer Street essay collective. Aside from my academic career, I established a art and literary magazine named Primavera which features submissions from creators around the world. Focusing on a creative project such as this one has taught me about collaboration, especially on written works. I also frequently write personal essays which often require the incorporation of outside research, therefore I am consistently strengthening my own writing abilities. I am comfortable with assisting in all forms of writing, whether it be an college application essay or academic paper.
