TEFL, and English Literature

I have devoted the greater part of my free time to reading and writing since a young age. I am passion incarnate when it comes to the beauty of language, be it literature, philosophy, or poetry. These days, having exhausted most of the literary canon in English, I find myself extending my theoretical formulations and love to the comparative side of multimedia English studies; film, television, news, art, video games, and so forth, all provide such rich layers of beauty to be explored. This ever-expanding process of the realization of the depth in everything around us is a part of the meaning of life itself, and I want nothing more than to share that wonder with others however I can. Teaching English as a Second Language has given me just such an opportunity. My passion here began when I spent a year abroad in Taiwan as a University exchange student. There I frequented language cafes, did private tutoring, and even helped co-teach a few freshman classes, in addition to the myriad linguistic adventures I'd personally find myself on, engaged with the many friends I made. After graduating with a B.A. in English, I worked as a tutor, online and in person, for three years. Now, I've also received a TEFL certificate. Most of my years of experience tutoring does come in the form of plain English Literature and Language. However, now I find myself with the focus on the cross-cultural pursuit of TEFL because it provides such bursts of desire and motivation. So much more is new, for everyone involved! I am sure that my many years of tutoring my little sisters, friends, fellow students, and the like, can help us all along this path of learning English.

English Tutor and History Nerd, I'm Excited to be your Writing Mentor and Academic Tutor!

Hello, my name is Andrew and I am very excited to have the opportunity to help you master your academic studies. My first mentoring experiences were as a sailing instructor during the summers when I was a teenager. From a very young age, I loved helping people master new skills. It was in Charleston, SC while pursuing my bachelor's degree in History and English that I began my career in academia. I worked as a tutor in the school library, helping students in the writing lab excel in their Intro to Academic Writing and freshman Rhetoric classes. The satisfaction I enjoyed watching my pupils grasp their material stuck with me, and lead me to a career in Education that has given me phenomenal tools to help educate students from around the world. I have spent the past 4 years in Florida teaching middle school and high school, Social Studies and English. I have helped my students with English SAT prep, prepared them for state exams required for graduation, and have helped them master more complex classes such as Advanced Placement History and English courses, as well as I.B. and other college level seminars. Whether you need help getting back on track for your most challenging semester seminars, or just want extra help to prepare for those state and standardized testing, our sessions will be stress-free and a positive learning experience! I completely understand the anxieties and difficulties of large classroom learning, having been immersed in that environment for years. My one-on-one and small group tutoring will be a welcome change for you! We will learn the material and have a good, easy time doing it. Whether you need to improve your English for a certain class, or just want stronger writing skills, we will work together to get you above and beyond where you need to be.
