In addition to my 7 years' experience as a private tutor, instructional aide, and assistant teacher, I was an accomplished English student. I took Honor's or AP English classes as soon as I possibly could, and I consistently earned A's. I scored a 5 on both my English Language and English Literature AP tests. I also tested out of my university level English courses at California State University, Sacramento by writing essays proving my skills instead.
Due to my experience as an educator, I am very familiar with ELA curriculum for pre K through middle school. I also gained confidence with high school and college English literature curriculum from my experiences as a tutor and student. I have helped students construct everything from basic CVC words to long-form essays, and I enjoy it all immensely.
I prefer to lead students to their own conclusions instead of telling them what to do. That way their skills grow independently. I am easy going, empathetic, and passionate about literature and writing. Literacy is one of many facets of a successful life, and every student deserves the help they need to achieve this goal. To that end, I aim to make students feel comfortable to ask for clarification, and I am always a cheerleader for student success. These are some of the reasons a student of any age or level may choose me as a tutor.
