Candice M.San Bernardino, CAUC San Diego graduate, English Tutor
I have tutored middle school students in English Language Arts for the past year. This includes writing, reading, and vocabulary. The school district I tutored for has been falling behind academically, and it was my job to help them catch up to their grade level. I worked one-on-one with each student whose academic level varied during school and after. Part of this role required a course on becoming a better tutor. In that course, I learned different teaching methods, how to encourage a growth mindset in students, and setting SMART goals.
I also completed courses at the University of California, San Diego that ALL have heavy reading and writing. One requirement for graduation was a course titled CAT125, which focused on direct written, spoken, and digital compositions to multiple and diverse audiences. I completed both writing non-fiction and fiction for electives as well.
In high school, English was my favorite course because it combined a form of art and how it related to history, culture, and present-day events. I learned most about the world in my English class. I enjoy helping others improve their reading and writing skills.
