I'm a teacher, a writer, and a reader at heart. I love words, and yes, I love essays, grammar, and helping students improve their writing.
I have taught in a full-time, public school for 34 years, so I have a lot of experience working with students on college essays, personal statements, thesis statements, narration, description, exposition, synthesis, persuasion, and research writing. I also have extensive tutoring experience.
I love working with high school students to help them with writing, and I especially love helping them discover and refine college essays and personal statements while preserving their authentic voices. College essays are challenging because they require students to write very differently from the way they learned to write every other essay in high school.
Providing written feedback to students about how to improve their organization, style, grammar, spelling, and punctuation has been a big part of my job for decades; however, every student learns differently, and I finding what works for each student is like solving a puzzle.
I've co-taught with Special Education colleagues in In-Class Resource courses for 20 years and taught students from marginalized communities in a summer program. I've worked with Honors students, and I've worked in an autistic spectrum class in a middle and elementary school.
Working with students on their writing is fun for me, and I'd really like to be able to help you with any kind of writing, too!
