Ayesha WeerakoonBaton Rouge, LAUndergraduate student at Louisiana State University- Chemistry major
I have studied Chemistry for five years. In the eight months, I took some private Chemistry classes before high school in Sri Lanka, and in the next three years, I studied Chemistry at my high school in Sri Lanka. I took my Advanced Level examination in Bio Stream including Chemistry. It is our final high school exam. I got an A in Chemistry in 2019, and I graduated from high school in 2020. I was selected to a University in Sri Lanka and studied Chemistry for another 5 months. After the pandemic, I moved to the USA in December 2021. I started my higher studies again at LSU in 2022- majoring in Chemistry.
At LSU, I completed General Chemistry I, General Chemistry II, General Chemistry Lab, Organic Chemistry I with A+ s, and Analytical Chemistry I with an A.
In 2018, I started tutoring in Chemistry for a small group of students in my hometown- Sri Lanka. I tutored general chemistry, basic organic chemistry, basic electrochemistry, and basic industrial chemistry according to the Sri Lankan high school syllabus.
Currently, I am volunteering in Dr. Zhang's research group in polymerization. I love chemistry a lot. That is the reason I choose to help students and my friends in Chemistry back in Sri Lanka. Teaching Chemistry was kind of my hobby back then. I would like to start helping some other students who are struggling in Chemistry and make them love Chemistry.
