Groovy Music Lessons with Judy

Greetings! Thanks for checking out my lessons. My name is Judy aka Groovy Judy. I'm a guitarist, singer, songwriter and performer. I've been playing music for 45 years and teaching private and group lessons for 20 years. I teach guitar, ukulele, beginning electric bass, beginning piano and songwriting. I’m currently teaching online via TakeLessons Classroom, Zoom, FaceTime, Skype or Microsoft Teams. I work with a lot of kids (as well as adults) and beginners. I'm extremely patient, and I enjoy getting brand new students up and running with proper techniques and good habits. My teaching style/philosophy is to get my students playing as soon as possible in an easy and fun way. I focus on basics such as tuning, rhythm, proper pick technique, strumming, reading guitar tab and/or sheet music, and playing songs. I tailor my lessons to the student so it's fun for both of us. The styles I teach are: rock (classic, indie, punk) folk, pop, reggae/ska funk, blues, r&b, country, some finger-picking, and a bit of classical. I can teach you any song you want to play whether it's rap, rock hip-hop or a piano piece. I will find a way to do it and make it fun. :-) My style is easy going, but not lackadaisical. I take teaching seriously and do my best to make the student feel comfortable. I give my students weekly assignments that I ask them to complete. However, if a student doesn't work on their assignment, I don't criticize or condemn them. I go over the assignment with them and gently remind them to play and work on the materials I've given. I love teaching, music, and sharing my gifts with others. Thanks and I look forward to working with you! Cheers, Judy G. aka Groovy Judy

English Speaking Tutor

Students can choose me as their English tutor, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I have lots of expertise and experience with the English language. I am fluent in both English and Vietnamese, with Vietnamese being my mother tongue. I have studied and learned English ever since Grade 1, so my English is fluent at a native-like level. As a non-Native English speaker, I can understand the struggles that non-Native English learners are experiencing. Not only that, but I have also taken English language exams in Vietnam, such as IELTS and TOEFL iBT. In addition, I also have some academic achievements, which involves the English language. In April 2016, I earned a Bronze Medal in the English section, as part of the Academic Olympics Contest, while I was studying at high school in my home city, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Not only that, but I was also awarded with the President’s Scholar Award at SJSU, because I got 4.00/4.00 GPA in the Fall 2021 semester, which was my first semester at SJSU. Followed by my English language experiences, I also worked as a History tutor at the Ohlone College. History majors are trained with various skills, such as reading, writing, and critical thinking, all of which are necessary and relevant to English tutoring. As an introvert. I prefer having deep and meaning communications, in a one-on-one setting. Since tutoring is mostly one-on-one, I think that tutoring is a good fit for me, as it allows me to focus on helping the student. Not only that, but as an introvert, I can relate to others, at an emotional level. Right now, I am working as a volunteer tutor at Step Up Tutoring. Furthermore, I helped my teachers and friends in Vietnam with their English learning and homework before. With my meticulous and thorough approach, my teachers and friends were able to learn English successfully.
