While I came to public school teaching late, I have always been a writing teacher, whether directing a team of professional writers, teaching college or teaching GED, or even teaching martial arts. I... have developed an approach to grammar that can help anyone from 3rd graders to dissertation candidates (both qualitative and quantitative). I also know how to help students get the ideas out onto the page. Over the last ten years, I have helped over a thousand students conceive, craft, and polish their college admission essays. Most of these were juniors whom I taught at Baltimore Polytechnic in Baltimore, perhaps the most highly rated inner city public school in the nation. 95 to 99% of my students have gone on to college. Because I have worked most of my life as a writer and editor, I know how to teach writing in the most useful ways.
