I started my graduate career in 2015 at Fort Hays State University in the biology department specializing in paleontology. I was a graduate teaching assistant in charge of the non major biology studen... t lab, the introduction to biology lab for biology major students, and the anatomy and physiology lab for my first two years. With the labs I taught, I have experience in the subject of botany, evolution, cellular division process, and more. I was expected to set up the lab for the days lessons, hand out and grade weekly quizzes over relevant subject matter. And lead class discussions. I also helped students during my office hours outside of the lab with any questions they had. This experience was an excellent opportunity for me to share my love of biology and science in general, especially when I was able to discuss my own work/project with my students during the evolution lessons. My last two years of graduate school was spent working at the Kansas Wetland Education Center (KWEC) in Great Bend Kansas. My responsibilities included, feeding the native animals that where in display in out exhibits, public relations, and guiding tours of the Cheyenne bottoms wetland area. KWEC was an amazing opportunity to reach out to the general public about biology and environmental protection. After a stent there I graduated in 2018.read more

Hi! I’m Tessa Whittiker. I’m from Flagler Colorado, and I attended college at Fort Hays State University in Hays Kansas. I was there from 2010-2018. I received my Bachelors of science degree in geolo... gy and my Masters of science in biology there. While I was there I taught biology labs (botany, evolution, anatomy and physiology were just a few subjects I taught) I also provided tutoring opportunities during my office hours. After graduation I moved back home. Now I am a stay at home mom of a 2 year old little boy! Outside of science and biology my hobbies include leather craft, drawing and fishing.
