Over the last year and a half I have had classroom and lab experience in Biology. This extends to beyond what is necessary for my major as I have participated in undergraduate research furthering my k... nowledge of concepts while gaining more experience in the lab environment. This includes research data presentation at symposiums as well as full research article writing. Additionally, I have worked as a Peer Mentor for two semesters. This included tutoring others in several subjects, including Biology at several levels. I recently received my Associate's in Psychology as summa cum laude and am now pursuing my Bachelor's in Environmental Science. Naturally, this involves Biology to a high degree. If you pursue tutoring by me, I will not promote rote memorization of terminology. Instead, we will focus on foundational concepts. Not only does this help in maximizing our time together, but it also allows you to understand more complex ideas as Biology builds on itself to a high degree. Hi, welcome! I am John Smith (yes, it's my real name) and I live in Chattanooga, TN. I have lived here for 5 years and am currently attending school here after joining the work force for several years... . My hobbies/passions include: environmentalism, hiking, obsessing over Dark Souls, A24 movies, writing fiction, and anything involving dogs (bigger is better). I love tutoring because I feel like so many people do not believe in their ability to learn and I have seen firsthand how tutors can help students see their true capabilities. If it weren't for a tutor helping me, I would not have gone back to college with such success. Plus, some of my best friends are those that I have helped tutor as its a collaborative process in my eyes. I pursue tutoring much like I pursue anything in my life: through research and logic. That is not to say there is no subjectivity as all people must approach things differently, but I like to follow the most recent, proven data to achieve best results. I strongly believe in working smarter, not harder. However, sometimes hard work is necessary. A student's mental well-being and stress levels are incredibly important to actually absorb material and have it be able to be expanded upon. I also greatly enjoy the Socratic method, but also understand its limits. I am a person that reads research articles for fun. I am keenly aware of the limits of my knowledge.
