They prepared me for the AP exams so that I could go into my freshman year of college with more credits than most. Through my experience as a mentor to a couple younger students, I learned it was not just the perseverance of my teachers which led to my success. It was the relationships they cultivated with me and my willingness to learn which propelled me forward. Teaching, tutoring, mentoring--all of these are dependent on there being trust on both sides. The only goal is helping the student reach a place where they can take charge of their own learning, to get back on track. I want to do just that--help struggling students regain their confidence in themselves and truly understand what they are reading and writing, so they can go on never fearing that their words might be mistaken. My favorite thing in the world is reading, always has been and always will be. This passion for being transported to another world made it easy to pick a major and eventually to find a calling.
