About
Hi there! My name is Renee, you can call me Nee if you like! I grew up in the Snoqualmie Valley of Western Washington, and am attending the University of Washington in Seattle for my PhD in physics! (... Specifically, neutrinos - if you have ANY questions about neutrinos, I'm always happy to nerd out about them!!)
My obsession with physics started with a love of mathematics. From algebra to calculus and beyond, it's just so much fun! As I've learned what it means to become a physicist, I've come consider mathematics as the "language" of the natural universe, and physics is what happens when we start asking questions in the language of math! Physics was the first science class that made me truly feel that I better understood how the world around me was working. Seeing those same lightbulb moments in my students when they make their own breakthroughs in understanding the laws of nature and the joy that comes with them is the most fulfilling part of tutoring!
When I'm teaching, I'm always aware that no two students are going to learn in the exact same way, so I always do my best to make sure sessions are enough of a back-and-forth that I'm able to understand your thought process and create explanations that click for you. Never be afraid to ask questions or point out something you didn't quite understand! I believe in learning by doing, and my sessions mostly consist of working together to tackle practice problems. If it's a concept you're particularly unfamiliar with, I'm happy to prepare a lesson on it beforehand, so that you feel prepared to put those ideas into practice!
Outside of physics, I'm a huge art nerd, Nintendo gamer, baking fanatic, and figure skater! Math and physics are everywhere, and the more I learn, the more beautiful the world around me becomes, at least in my eyes! I hope through working together you're able to find just as much joy and beauty in the understanding subjects we study - the universe is just so cool!!read more
