Justin TchernovBirmingham, ALStudying for a Double Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry and Advanced Physics with Math Minor
Although my 8th grade physical science class was my first introduction to physics, my interest in physics did not fully develop until I majored in chemistry at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where I was required to take calculus-based physics 1 and 2. These courses inspired me to double major in chemistry and physics.
I proceeded to complete modern physics 1 and 2, math methods for physics, classical mechanics, statistical mechanics & thermodynamics, electricity & magnetism 1 and 2, as well as quantum mechanics 1 and 2. In addition, I have completed multivariable/vector calculus, intro to linear algebra, and intro to differential equations. Through my classes, I was also introduced to Wolfram Mathematica, MatLab, and Python.
I also worked as an undergraduate research assistant for a lab specializing in the production of AC-electrospun nanofibers. I collaborated 2 summers in a row with university partners in Łódź of Poland and Liberec of the Czech Republic. This line of work introduced me to a variety of instrumentation, as well as a deep dive into polymer physics due to the use of sol-gel chemistry for our precursor solutions.
