About
Hi! I'm Angela, an architecture student and artist from Pittsburgh. You can probably catch me walking around the streets of any city or place that I visit with a sketchbook, pencil, and cup of coffee ... in hand.
Tutoring is something I've done since high school, and after mentoring students in various academic subjects and working as a teaching assistant at Carnegie Mellon University, I've found that I have a passion for helping people achieve their learning goals. Through my experience, it became evident that students need to tackle subjects at a pace that is natural for them and receive encouragement that instills confidence at every step of the learning process. I hope to provide that encouragement, make students feel good about their progress, and ignite their passion in whatever they are studying.
Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions, and I look forward to working with you!read more
Experience
Peer Mentor
Carnegie Mellon University
Aug 2020 - present
Each year I am assigned lowerclassmen as my architecture peer mentees. This is a very casual pairing... process, but it gives a chance for freshmen and sophomores who may still be getting used to university workloads a chance to talk to someone with no pressure involved. I help with supplying critiques of work or recommending resources with material to aid in studio courses and other classes. I also provide support and encouragement, as university life always has its ups and downs.read more
Teaching Assistant
Carnegie Mellon University
Aug 2020 - May 2021
I was a teaching assistant for the classes Drawing I+II. I assisted in lecture and held breakout roo... ms where students received help with constructing perspective drawings, creating depth through charcoal and other media, and working with basic shape and color theory to create expressive and proportional drawings. Additional office hours were held for individuals who needed extra help, in which I sat down with each of them and discussed which skills they felt less comfortable with and worked to strengthen them with targeted exercises.read more
Student Tutor
John Jay High School
Sep 2015 - Jun 2019
Throughout high school, I volunteered as a tutor for the grades below me, from elementary to high sc... hool. It was here that I gained experience working with students with special needs. We worked together on homework and exam revision, on the core subjects of Math, English, Science, and Social Studies. I worked with students one-on-one to pinpoint which lessons required more attention, alongside strengthening basic skills and incorporating easy memorization tactics to help them in the classroom.read more
