Hello and welcome.
0:02
My name is Vicki Van Rossum, or Victorine Van Rossum.
0:06
I was born in the Netherlands, the country
0:08
of tulips lovely cheese
0:10
and skating, as you can see on the little
0:12
pictures behind me.
0:14
I studied to become an English teacher in the Netherlands
0:18
and worked as a teacher in secondary schools
0:21
for quite a few years.
0:22
And apart from that, I also had a translation business, um,
0:26
because there were a lot of, um, foreigners coming
0:29
to Amsterdam where I was living at the time for work.
0:33
I also gave Dutch private lessons
0:36
and there were also a lot of refugees
0:39
who could also use a lot of help
0:41
learning our not so easy language.
0:44
So after many years of work in the Netherlands,
0:48
I decided the gr the grass was greener on the other side.
0:51
And I moved to Australia via
0:53
a stint in Hawaii and New Zealand.
0:56
I resumed my translation business there
0:60
and also became a piano teacher.
1:02
So yes, I love teaching.
1:04
After about 25 years
1:07
in having lived in English speaking countries,
1:10
I went back to the Netherlands.
1:12
Um, still had my translation agency,
1:15
but also picked up my teaching again for, you know,
1:20
and I taught both English
1:21
and Dutch to mainly private individuals.
1:24
Um, yes, and
1:26
because I still love to travel,
1:28
I bought a little thinker in the southwest Spain,
1:31
and yes, I now have to learn Spanish.
1:36
So I had my little thinker.
1:37
I divide my time between the Netherlands and Spain.
1:40
And because I have to learn Spanish, I realize
1:43
how difficult it is as an adult to learn a new language.
1:47
So I know exactly what you're going through.
1:49
And for me, Spanish is not easy.
1:52
And I know for most people Dutch is not an easy language,
1:56
but it can be done.
1:57
So what do I love about teaching? Basically everything.
2:02
I love to share my knowledge.
2:04
I love to create a really interesting lesson plan based
2:08
on your needs.
2:09
And of course, everybody wants to be able to talk.
2:12
So I use, um, quite a few podcasts, uh, short films,
2:17
and really interesting texts that are completely
2:20
based on your interests as far as possible.
2:24
So they will get you talking.
2:26
So yes, if you want to learn Dutch,
2:29
this practically impossible language
2:32
as you might be thinking now, I can help you
2:35
and I really look forward to meeting you.
2:38
Okay, bye for now. Bye.
