During my early years, I had problems with mathematics, so I understand how challenging it can be to sit there staring at a sum, and have absolutely no idea how to go about it. Allow me to tell you a ... little bit about my mathematics journey: I started high school with a very poor score in math, but at the end of the four years, I was top of my class with a straight A in Math. Right now, I have three years experience teaching mathematics at High School level in Kenyan Secondary Schools (This is an equivalent of O levels in the UK and Between grade 9 and grade 12 in the US). I have Graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Kabianga with a Second Class Honors Upper Division, and I am also currently enrolled on a Masters Program within the same institution. I has therefore spent the majority of my academic career working towards improving both the perception of students towards mathematics, and their scores on the subject. read more

"Good fortune often happens when opportunity meets with preparation." Thomas Edison. Hi, I am Kimutai Victor. Allow me to tell you a short story. But first, lets talk about the background. I am K... enyan, from a small city called Kericho. I recently graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and I am currently enrolled for a Master's Program. In Kenya, there is one examination that is really important, The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). This exam decides which career path one takes and is often referred to even for employment. So for example, if you want to be an engineer, you MUST pass your Math, Sciences and English exams in KCSE and have at least a grade B. While in Form 1, I really disliked Mathematics. I had never been good at it and so I didn't really care putting any effort to it. So for our first exam, I scored an E. Mind you, this is the lowest grade possible, its an equivalent to "Fail". But at the end of Form 4, when I sat for my KCSE, I scored an A, which is the highest score. How then did I manage to make this? It boils down to one thing, PREPARATION. From failing basic arithmetic and algebra class, I rose to pursue a Degree in Mathematics and Physics, and graduated Magna cum Laude. I am now a certified Teacher in my country and everyday I get to see my students grasp the fundamental concepts of Mathematics and Physics. My teaching/tutoring philosophy is that: "No human being is unteachable, and Math is one of those subjects where the effort you put in can easily translate to results" Success is a product of preparation. And therefore using every tool at your disposal to improve is invaluable.
