My name is Steve Benner. I am a lifelong learner and teacher. Through many years of instructional experience in a variety of settings, I have had the chance to develop a robust, responsive teaching ... style. I have at my disposal a wide array of instructional approaches to address diverse learning needs and ensure that every child in my classroom is learning to the best potential. I have recently completed my student teaching placement teaching more than five dozen high-energy third-graders at an online school. This gave me the chance to work with kids with a wide range of abilities and challenges that I addressed with considerable success. I teach a wide range of subjects, but mostly English as a Second Language and Reading/Writing. I do also work on Elementary Mathematics and German. In my tutoring work, I like to build background knowledge and typically use the materials provided on the Core Knowledge Foundation website for this purpose. This has resulted in many engaging conversations where the child gets the opportunity to ask deeper questions that lead to higher-order thinking.
