I have a love and passion for every branch of mathematics and have studied extensively for over 12 years both in and out of school. I have also been teaching and tutoring everything from pre-algebra t... o advanced calculus for over 8 years. I am presently just 10 credits away from earning a Bachelor's degree in mathematics, with an emphasis on applications to scientific theory and modeling. In addition to having cultivated a deep knowledge of mainstream mathematics, I have also explored many mathematical avenues that lie off the beaten path. For instance, I am currently writing a textbook about alternative (algebraic) foundations for number theory, geometry and calculus. Fractal geometry is another fantastic playground of alternative mathematics that I would love to teach! My favorite subjects to teach are algebra (elementary/linear/abstract), geometry (elementary/analytic/differential), set theory (basic to advanced, such as in real/complex analysis or point-set topology), graph theory (especially network theory), probability, and all flavors of calculus. I love number theory, as well, but have not yet had the chance to teach it directly. In addition to the pure maths, I have taught many applications such as physics (algebra-based up through general relativity and quantum field theory), statistics, network analysis, and nonlinear dynamics (including catastrophe theory and bifurcation analysis). Hello! My name is Christian. Originally from Colorado, I will always be native to the mountains, but I am currently setting up to live as a digital nomad with my partner and son. Adventuring, explor... ing, learning, creating, and teaching are my passions. If I am not outside climbing, hiking, or playing with my kiddo, then I am either spending time with my family indoors, playing music, studying, working on a project, or immersed in a beautiful story. I see teaching as part of an interpersonal cycle of growth as natural as life itself: learn, create, teach, repeat. By teaching, I develop mastery of knowledge and enjoy students' fulfillment as their knowledge grows and they gain confidence in their ability to learn. I hold the philosophy that learning is as much feeling as it is thinking. In order to learn well, the student and teacher must tune into a shared state of mind and body that is conducive to learning. This shared state can be built by fostering trust and understanding, and by taking care of ourselves through proper sleep, nourishment, and smart studying practices. As a teacher, this involves actively listening to my students and forging a partnership that goes beyond a superficial transaction of knowledge. It also means helping students repattern self-limiting beliefs and establish healthy habits. I measure my success as a teacher by improvements in my students' confidence, competence, enthusiasm for the subject, and overall well-being. My last point -- but certainly not the least -- is that I believe that learning should be fun and explorative, as well as deliberate and organized. I try to aim for that optimal place where play and responsibility meet.
