My focus has always been to make each piece of writing creative - whether that is in a work of fiction, a memoir, an essay, or even in a job application. Of course, one's creativity is best showcased ... when there is the freedom of being able to decide your own genre and platform. However, being able to write within the guidelines while still playfully breaking the rules is a huge part of what answers the question that a lot of writers are in search of, "What creative angle should I take with this piece?" The point of this is to brag about my accomplishments, so bear with me. Here's what qualifies me to help you expand your creative writing skills: - Since grade school, I have always scored the highest on my written and verbal skills. I taught my brother how to read when I was still a child (he has a few learning disabilities, so we used different methods to help him learn). I went to a school that graded based on writing capabilities. Every teacher I have ever had has encouraged me to publish my writing, present them at public speaking events, asked to use my essays (mostly the ones I turned into a narrative, because that was more interesting) for their own publications, or encouraged me to pursue creative writing professionally. - The most important qualification: I write. Constantly. About everything. I was a tutor to my brother but also again in college - just because I wanted to help. Mostly it was around creative writing skills and helping people gain more clarity in and through their writing, both in school and professionally. In short, I'm passionate about creativity and helping people establishing their own craft. After eight years of copy writing experience in marketing and public relations, I've decided to move back to where my heart and passion is - creative writing. Originally from a small town outside of Atlanta, Georgia, I always imagined that I'd live in a larger city. However, a decade of traveling and living all over the United States and world later, I now ... reside in a small town in Maine. Before now, most of my adult life has been nomadic. And even though I'm learning to plant more roots now, it's taught me to love the parts of my life that require more thought and build my person - whether that's a book, a poem, music, a painting, homemade meals, fulfilling relationships, travel, new languages, and ultimately growth. And throughout it all, I've written and used writing as a tool through every journey. Everyone likes to believe the best about themselves, but what I think most people forget is that "the best" changes definition from person to person. So the best way I could describe myself, in hopes of it reaching the people that resonate with my version of "best" would be direct with a sense of humor. Caring and understanding but goal oriented. Adaptable but not scared to hold you or be held accountable. I care deeply about creativity and helping each person (who cares to do so) come into their own authentic voice, and I'm a firm believer that each person's voice is valuable and exactly what this world needs. When tutoring, it's my top priority to focus on the student's goals and to ascertain how best they learn in order to assist them in the process of learning new skills, challenging themselves, and understanding themselves better.
