Hello, my name is Joshua,
0:03
and I'll be studying instrumental music education at the
0:07
University of Maryland at College Park coming this fall.
0:10
I've been playing saxophone for about seven years now,
0:13
and I love playing saxophone.
0:15
I love playing music in general.
0:16
Um, and over the pandemic I've gotten into teaching more
0:21
lessons through like, um, through Zoom or Skype.
0:24
And in my high school band, I've gotten opportunities
0:29
to teach the band class as a whole
0:31
and to teach my saxophone section
0:34
and other sections as well.
0:36
And I feel like that's where my passion
0:37
of teaching has come from.
0:39
Um, I love all types of music, jazz, hip hop, classical r
0:43
and b, really anything.
0:45
And that kind of integrates with how I approach my lessons
0:49
because one of the things I like to tell my students is
0:51
that learning how to play music
0:52
or learning how to play an instrument should be fun.
0:54
And it, you shouldn't, it shouldn't feel boring.
0:58
Like of course we'll be reading out of a book,
1:00
but it shouldn't feel like just book work.
1:02
You know, I try to keep things engaging
1:05
and interesting in my lessons.
1:06
So I hope to see you all soon.
