History retention is all about story, and fortunately for us, humans are, if anything - storytellers. All my life I have been obsessed with history and the endless fountain of stories that it tells. ... My method centers on using the subject material to cultivate interest in story and human nature. Of course the goal is to get As on the tests - and I think the best way to do this is not to cram random knowledge in our heads, but to instead to learn what these stories say about us, and why it is our duty as humans understand this. Orwell wrote in 1984: ‘’Who controls the past controls the future: who controls the present controls the past." If we don't understand our own history, we risk it falling into the hands of people that would use it to control us. My name is Carter and my passion is writing. Have you ever looked at a sentence and wondered what makes it beautiful? Or have you grown up with a story that you never get tired of hearing, reading, ... watching, and wondered - why doesn't it ever get old? My interest in writing sprung from these questions, and my goal in life is to help others grapple with them. My favorite writers are George Orwell and JRR Tolkien - Orwell for the beautiful sentences and Tolkien for the stories I never get tired of. Although I have a vested interest in multiple disciplines, English and Philosophy are my areas of expertise. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English with a focus on creative writing from Appalachian State University. My current profession centers around freelance content creation for various brands, but my true passion lies in crafting blogs, essays, and, most importantly, stories. My dream is to write novels and screenplays full-time. My Method: Learning to write effectively is synonymous with learning how to think critically. Sound thinking is a fundamental skill applicable across all aspects of life, empowering individuals to make better decisions. My primary goal is to facilitate a space where students can learn to articulate their thoughts clearly and coherently in writing. I am a verbal learner through and through - I learn and develop my thoughts through dialogue, either with myself (not optimal), or with others (optimal). Lastly, I hold the belief that the studying the humanities provides individuals with an integral perspective on the human story and, by extension, their own place within it.
