As I have been learning ASL for 4 years now, the most important thing I took away from it is that not a lot of people know sign language. I personally think it is very important for more people to tak... e sign language, just as we take Spanish or French. It is very important for more people to understand not only ASL, but the deaf community. I took American Sign Language for 3 years in high school (Cherry Creek High School), I am a freshman at the University of Colorado Boulder and I am on my 4th year now of learning ASL!
